This is a shock.
Jason was very generous and kind.
This seems sudden…does anyone know Jason personally? Was he unwell, either mind or body? It is sad, so few of us bother to bend down to the bottom shelf, or climb the sliding ladder, where the poems are usually kept !
Leanne was very close friends with Jason after she moved to Auckland, and I knew him as well after coming back to these shores. I visited him for help with the site he created for me, and I knew his mother who would make us tea, or even dinner a couple of times. We have just left the wake. As another friend said, he was wonderfully enigmatic, reticent about his own writings, and preferred often to stay in the back ground behind the poets he wanted to support. Generous with a vast heart, but some health issues; the cause of his sudden death is unknown at this point.
Jason created this site and maintained it at his own expense, and did everything he could think of to keep it running, and to encourage us with competitions in the past, the prize money which he put up himself. He gave everything he could to the art he loved to pursue, poetry, since those early days we still remember on the ning.com site up till this week. May you fare well, brother, in the rivers of brightness out there.
I’m just new here, but feel sorry for your loss. Aroha nui.
