When you don't know your iamb from your elbow

Starting out as a poet is pretty hard but especially if, like me, you are interested in trying your hand at writing different forms, or you happen across a word relating to poetry that you have never heard before in your life! I certainly did not know what an iamb was until a few months ago, in fact I knew nothing at all with regard to the technical poetry terms. If any on you have found yourselves in a similar position from time to time, or would just like to increase your general understanding, then the following might be of interest –
